Our Internal Medicine Department will provide a complete physical examination and may perform a variety of diagnostic tests to aid in the diagnosis of your pet's medical condition. Our board-certified internal medicine specialists have an extensive background in evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of complicated medical conditions.
These are some of the conditions that your family veterinarian may refer you to seek the expertise of our internists:
- Endocrine disease (adrenal disorders, complicated diabetes, thyroid disorders)
- Infectious disease
- Liver disease
- Chronic sneezing or nasal discharge
- Anemia or other bleeding disorders
- Chronic vomiting or diarrhea
- Complicated pancreatic disease
- Coughing and other breathing problems
- Unexplained fever
- Unexplained weight loss
- Suspected neoplasia (cancer)
Our Internal Medicine department works in collaboration with your family veterinarian and uses specialized equipment to perform some of the following procedures such as:
- Biopies
- Bone Marrow
- Bronchoscopy (a procedure to examine the bronchial tubes)
- Colonoscopy (a procedure to examine the colon, or large bowel)
- CSF Procedure
- Cystoscopy (a procedure to look inside the bladder and urethra)
- Endoscopy (a procedure to examine the esophagus, stomach, and small intestine)
- Joint Tap/Spinal Tap
- Otoscopy (a procedure to look inside the ear)
- Rhinoscopy (a procedure to examine the inside of the nose)
- Tracheal Wash (a collection of airway fluid)
- Ultrasound (ultrasound imaging)
Once our internists have diagnosed your pet's condition, they will discuss with you your pet's treatment options available and a treatment plan with be formulated.
