There are a wide variety of causes of acute cough in the dog. Because infectious causes of acute cough are common and there is risk for spread of disease, all dogs with acute cough should be treated as if infectious until proven otherwise. This lecture will provide an overview of the clinical approach to diagnosis and management of acute cough, with an emphasis on preventative vaccination. Mucosal immunity will be reviewed and scientific data comparing mucosal and subcutaneous vaccination of Bordetella bronchiseptica compared.
