In order to best fit the needs of you and your pet, VCVREC has partnered with Advanced Veterinary Imaging of the Lehigh Valley (AVI) to provide CT scans and Fluoroscopy. Working together, VCVREC and AVI use state-of-the-art, but more importantly, pet-safe advanced technology. Our Vimago™ CT scanner uses 60-90% less radiation than a standard CT scanner. Our high definition CT scanner is designed and engineered specifically for veterinary use and results can be given in as little as 24 hours. With our state-of-the-art medical imaging we are able to improve the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment for animals suffering from conditions that could not be visualized before.
A CT uses X-rays in conjunction with computing algorithms to image the body. Radioontrast agents are often used with CT for enhanced delineation of anatomy and angiography. With computer manipulation, our CT images can be reconstructed into 3D images. Three dimensional imaging has never been easier, safer, or better. If we can't find what's troubling your pet on the surface, you can be sure that our doctors at VCVREC and AVI will perform a scan, find the problem, and develop a medical plan to keep your pet healthy and happy. Advanced imaging is becoming a necessary tool in veterinary medicine, so it's important that veterinarians and owners understand the technology of CT scans.
How is my Pet Monitored?
All patients are monitored with specialized equipment to watch their heart rate, breathing rate, oxygen level and blood pressure. These readings are recorded every few minutes in the patient record and changes are made as necessary. Any anesthesia carries a risk. Another reason that a thorough physical exam and blood work are required on all cases having advanced imaging performed.
Who operates the CT?
Our CT Scan is operated by a human MRI technologist licensed in both MRI and CT with over 20 years of experience. This allows us to make adjustments during the scan to make sure we get the best possible 3D images.
What is the cost of a CT?
The cost depends on the area of the body that is being imaged. Our CT scan prices also include the anesthesia, the monitoring, and the reading of the CT scan by a board-certified veterinary radiologist ALWAYS. We are the areas most affordable advanced imaging. Please call for pricing.
What is Fluoroscopy?
Fluoroscopy is a non-invasive imaging modality that uses continuous series of very low dose x-ray images that let veterinarians see images of the inside of the body in motion. For example, fluoroscopy of the chest allows us to watch the heart beat and the lungs expand. Fluoroscopy is used to diagnose diseases that involve motion, such as collapse of the trachea during breathing, or disorders of swallowing.
Some of the fluoroscopic applications in veterinary medicine include minimally invasive fracture repair, intraluminal stenting for the treatment of tracheal collapse, urethral and colonic obstructive disease, vascular procedures, and contrast studies of the gastrointestinal tract.
Fluoroscopic technology enables us to provide your pet with the latest advances in veterinary medicine. These techniques result in decreased discomfort for your pet, a quicker recovery time, and less time spent in the hospital.
